::..People are strange::..

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 25, 2006, 10:35 AM
  • Mood: Content
  • Listening to: Within Temptation--Forsaken
  • Playing: Sly Cooper 2: Band of Thieves
::.Whether you take a gander at my journal entries or not, I just feel like voicing my feelings at the moment. I've seen popularity do some strange things to people, especially "Extreme Big-headiness". It's okay to have some type of ego, complete low-selfesteem allows people to use you. But, too much ego makes you look arrogant, ignorant and for lack of a better term, a total "jackass". Even though we as artist sometimes prefer praise over constructive critique (positive and negative) , critique is good. In art school and in life there will always be someone a little better than you. But, with practice and a lot drive you can accel and surpass them in your own ability.

A. Critique is not bad. It's according to how you voice it. Unless..If that person is saying "Lol. That looks like total shit". But, even comments like that force your drive. They have with me. I've gotten ton of-- that looks like "crap or thats ugly" from people. Even though I may get sad , in the end (honestly), I take it all in, try to see what they see and improve on it. Oh, yes I get a lot of critique in college. Take it all in, breathe and look. Try it.

B. Big Ego ish bad mang..

It good to be proud of your work---BE HAPPY of how far you've come. But, dont be arrogant and mean. I try really hard to avoid sounding mean or snobby. I don't want you to think I'm some high and mighty person just because I have a lot of pageviews. I'm no different then any other person. Even professionals need help sometimes.

C. Try things^.^

It's good to try new things, in artwork and life. I'm probably the most cautious, moody person you'll ever see. Everyday I find new things about myself, life and even if I don't want to try the new stuff, I do it anyway. If i didn't I probably wouldn't of ever signed onto DA, talked to my -now- boyfriend or even joined JROTC (Junior Reserve Officiers Training Core) in high school.

D. Don't post hate mail and go around bashing people...

Just because you don't like an artist's artwork or attitude you don't have go telling everyone and their grandma you hate them. Everyone whether an artist or not, I believe has some type of talent. So, this person draws yaoi pictures or has this fetish thing. If, i dont like it I'm not going to get a hoard of people to attempt to persuade them into not drawing it. That's not very respectful of what others like..

E. In Art..Study things you want to know more about..

Even I myself atleast attempt to draw things from real life and get people at home to tell me what they think. It's ok to go and study about something you want to draw or write about too. I always like to go do a little research or go find pictures of buildings or animals, etc.

<3 Sorry, if this just wasted a couple of minutes of your life.

Well written my dear. :)

Well written my dear. :) I used to take critiques really hard >_> But then I realised that most of them weren't bashing me or even my art, really, so now I keep in mind what people have to say.
:iconthesnowdrifter:
That wasn't a waste of time to read, I rather enjoyed it. =3 I honestly know my art's not the best, but I happen to have a difficult time taking critiques because people just don't know how to critique well. Such as, saying 1 positive thing first, then tears the whole entire picture apart. What people need to learn in critiquing is that you say negatives first, and every possible positive last so that the negative doesn't crush that person, and so they won't hate you. XD As for ego's, I've never really dealt with a big-time artist too much, so I have no comment. =/

Heh. Aww, that was all cute and philosopical. :D I do stuff like this all the time, don't worry.

I personally love your drawing style because it's so unoriginal, both in the shapes and coloring. But I guess I can understand why someone wouldn't like it, if they prefered more traditional art styles. After all, Manet was constantly riddiculed for his Impressionism techniques, but has become very famous over the years. I am SO happy I got to see his work when i went to Paris last summer. Impressionism is always my favorite type of painting (besides maybe Pollock, but "Lavender" is cool! I'm pretty sure that's what it's called, anyways.) because it's so full of LIGHT, unlike more traditional portrait paintings and such.

Oh, wait, I've gotten off topic.

Yeah. So. Anyways. Keep up the good work. ( ^^; )

It wasn't a waste. You have a really good point about what you said. I agree! I mean, nobody's perfect and if someone wants to improve on something, well then "practice makes perfect", right?
And artists should draw what they like best. =)
